The Icarus Model 3000 Altitude Serializer enhances the usefulness of most aircraft GPS receiver. By providing the receiver with the aircraft's Mode C altitude, two dimensional navigation is available 24 hrs a day anywhere in the world with only three satellites in view. The Model 3000 also assists the receiver in determining 2D position when a satellite is lost due to antenna blanking in a turn. The Warning flag will virtually never appear when the model 3000 is used to supplement satellite reception. If the aircraft is climbing or descending, substantial position errors are caused if the number of satellites in view goes below four, and the last computed altitude is not updated. The Model 3000 eliminates the need to manually enter the aircraft's altitude when only three satellites are in view.
Most GPS receivers have the ability to view your Mode C encoder's output, This enables you to check on the encoder's accuracy by temporarily setting your altimeter to 29.92 and comparing the altitude on your pressure altimeter with that displayed on the receiver. The Model 3000 Serializer easily installs in any aircraft equipped with a Mode C encoder. It is equipped with two connectors to facilitate the connections to the existing encoder's output and transponder. Since it connects to your primary encoder, the Mode C altitude that you can view on the receiver is the same altitude that is being transmitted to ATC. Since the serializer connects electrically to your existing encoder, the static system is not disturbed, and no recalibration is required.
